Sight Word Reader for the Word "The" (2024)

Home » Beginning Readers

ByAngela Thayer

I’m back to share my weekly sight word reader! This week I’m sharing a super-important sight word – the word “the”! According to Wikipedia, “the” is the #1 most common word. I believe it! This word is not one that canbe sounded out, which is why it’s a sight word.

In this set of readers, there are 3 booklets:

  • The Park
  • I See the Art Supplies
  • The Candy Store

In each book, I have simple sentences for the child to read. The books use sight words from the previous sight word readers that I’ve created. They use the words “I”, “see”, and “the” frequently. I also added in the word “like”. Have your child look at the pictures to help them read the sentence.

I love using sight word readers with my preschooler to help him learn to read! These little books give him the confidence he needs as a beginning reader.

  6. I just got done printing a few sets of sight readers, I’ll be working through the rest with my son as he gets the first few sets! My son is 5 years old and is developmentally delayed and has sensory processing disorder & struggles very much with focus. So supplementing extra learning at home is so crucial! I was overjoyed to find some readers in color and printables at that! I was just telling my husband as I was cutting and assembling the books. That I was so thankful for you! You are sharing your knowledge and experience as an educator to the world and to me its so honorable and I respect you very much for helping our children grow even further at home. My son is sitting in front of me eating dinner and he says “Mama Can we please read the circus book at bed?” That makes my heart smile!! to see him excited! what more can you ask for when fun is involved in learning! I am looking forward to helping him at home with these tools. Thank you for this website and all of your wonderful effort! Your awesome!!

  8. Thank you so much for these! I have a kindergartener who is a good reader but needs to build her confidence. I was actually frustrated since her brother and her share a room, he needs a nap but she doesn’t really. I was wishing there were some books at her level she could read in her bunk while he napped, and then I found this sight! Really excited to get a little collection going for her that she can practice on her own. =)
