Ingredients and Substitutions

These are the main ingredients and substitutions for this Blended overnight oats recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this blog post for full ingredient list and instructions.

Organic old fashioned rolled oats work best for this recipe, you don’t have to use organic but they must be old fashioned rolled. I have not tested this recipe with quick oats. To make this recipe gluten-free, use certified gluten-free rolled oats.

I use Ritual protein which is my favorite right now, but you can use any type that you like. I would recommend sticking to plain or vanilla for this recipe!

Ground flax adds fiber which helps keep you full. You can omit if you don’t have it or try adding in some chia seeds in replace.

Almond milk or any type of milk or nut-milk alternative such as cashew milk, coconut milk, hemp milk and so much more.

Cashew butter gives the best cookie dough taste, but you can use any other nut butter in replace. I’d recommend almond butter or peanut butter. To make this recipe nut-free, try using a seed butter like tahini, sunflower seed butter or oat butter.

Vanilla extract adds flavor.

You can’t have cookie dough without chocolate chips! You can use dairy or dairy-free!

For the frosting I did a mixture of coconut base yogurt like the one from Harmless, mixed with melted dark chocolate, my favorite right now is from Hu Kitchen.

FOUR: In the meantime, mix together the melted chocolate and yogurt to create the frosting. If your chocolate hardens up due to the yogurt being cold, add it to the microwave for 15 seconds to melt. Then, spread the frosting on top and place back in the fridge or freezer to harden.

Tips and tricks

Blend ingredients on high speed for 30-60 second or until mixture is smooth and creamy. I like to use my Nutribullet since it is a smaller cup and really ensure’s everything is blended together. If you are using a larger blender, you may need to stop to scrape down the sides a few times.

If you’re enjoying that day, throw the blended oats in the freezer for 20 minutes to get them nice and cold, or try adding ice!
